Prostate Cancer

It is a most common cancer in men. This type of cancer mostly spread in men about 41% cases in men are prostate cancer and 14% deaths are caused from prostate cancer. Mostly men who are related to person who is already affected by prostate cancer and black men.

There are many cases has been found :

  • In black race
  • A family history
  • High fat diet
  • From some chemical exposures

Prostate cancer develops in the prostate ( a gland in the male reproductive system). When cell of the prostate mutate ( changes in DNA or RNA ) It can be caused by cell division and it begin to multiply out of control. From the prostate it may spread to other parts of the body. It spread specially in bones and lymph. Prostate cancer may cause pain and difficulty in urinating.

Prostate cancer rating widely across the world ( especially in Europe United states). In the United States this is the second most common cancer. In the development of prostate cancer there are many factors like genetics, diet etc.

Prostate cancer is diagnosed by physical examination, by screening, blood test, prostate specific antigen test. By removing a piece of the prostate it can examine under a microscope. To check whether prostate cancer has been spread in the body or not there are most tests like x-rays, bone scan etc.

Symptoms

Prostate cancer patient does never feel anything. Patient may have urinary symptoms like slow stream. It is diagnosed during Prostate specific antigen. It is produced for the ejaculate sperm where it allows swimming freely. It is present in blood at low levels.

There are many more symptoms like :

  • Blood in the urine
  • Increased urination at night
  • Frequent urination
  • Difficulty starting and maintaining a steady stream of urine.
  • Painful urination
  • May cause problem in ejaculation (pain)
  • Bone pain ( bones of the spine or ribs)
  • Compression in spinal cord
  • Leg weakness

Treatment

Many factors has to be consider while deciding how to treat prostate cancer. Like :

  • Age
  • State of health
  • Stage of a cancer
  • Results of a bone scan
  • Result of PSA ( Prostate specific antigen is a blood test )

There are many ways to treat prostate cancer :

  • Radiation therapy : There are 35 treatments of x-ray where patient has to lie on a table or patient has to undergo through Brachytherapy, which is implementation of radioactive seeds into the prostate (small radioactive rods implanted directly into the tumor)

Brachytherapy for prostate cancer is administered using seeds, small radioactive rods implanted directly into the tumor.

  • Radical Prostatectomy : This is a surgery type of treatment where prostate is entirely removed.
  • Hormonal Therapy : It is also a surgical treatment in which testicles removed from the patient’s body. Pills given to patient to stop the testosterone production.

Diagnosis

Screening

It is quick and easy way to diagnose prostate cancer in which the doctor inserts a lubricated finger into the rectum (the last 5 inches of the large intestine leading outside of the body) to feel the size and shape of the prostate. Doctor examines for hard area in the prostate, if it is present then the patient is affected from the prostate cancer. The prostate area should be soft and smooth.

When the tumor is present within the prostate it is often detected during DRE.

When other prostate diseases are present, the amount of PSA (prostate specific antigen is a substance which is produced by prostate cells ) in blood increases. This PRA test should in the normal range between 0-4 nanograms per milliliter. If it increases, doctor suggests biopsy, which is the last option available to diagnose prostate cancer.

Prevention

  • Decrease intake of animal fat.
  • From these two dietary supplements Vitamin E and selenium may help to prevent prostate cancer.
