Cladribine

Cladribine is used to treat cancer such as blood cancer. It may help to decrease or stop the growth of cancer cells.

Who should not take this medication?

Tell the health care providers, before taking this drug, if one has

  • Liver disorder
  • Kidney problem
  • Had recent vaccinations
  • Problems of bone marrow
  • If one is pregnant or has planned to become pregnant, consult the doctor before using this medication.
  • If one is breast-feeding a newborn baby, do not take it without consulting the health care provider.

How should one use this medication?

The right quantity of this drug will be determined by the health care providers according to the types of cancer. Patient should wash the affected area with mild soap and lukewarm water. During treatment with cladribine, patients should avoid direct contact with people who have flu, colds or other diseases which are spread from one person to another person.

Common side effects of Cladribine may include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Pain in the trunk or abdominal pain
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Constipation
  • Loss of appetite
  • Headache
  • Aches in the joints or muscles
  • Problem in sleeping

Other side effects

  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Cough
  • Change in bowel habits
  • Sore throat
  • Problem in taking breath
