CISPLATIN

Cisplatin is very effective to treat cancer of the ovaries, testicles and bladder. It is also used to treat other types of cancer such as lung cancer, head and neck cancer and neurologic cancers, which are determined by the health care providers. The growths of the cancerous cells are destroyed by this drug. This medicine is available in the form of infection and given into a vein.

Side effects of Cisplatin:

  • Diarrhea
  • Changes in taste
  • Brittle or thinned hair
  • Tingling or numbness in the toes and fingertips
  • Loss of weight or appetite 

Other side effects of this medicine

  • Fatigue
  • Chills and fever
  • Feeling of faintness or dizziness
  • Problems in taking breath
  • Swelling of the ankles or feet

Precautions while taking this drug:  

  • Tell the pharmacist and health care providers what nonprescription and prescription medications one is taking, such as vitamins and aspirin.
  • If someone has kidney problems, tell the doctor immediately.
  • If someone is allergic to this medicine or any other medicines, tell the doctor.
  • This medicine passes into breast milk; therefore do not breast-feed during taking this medication.
  • Patients should drink lots of fluids while taking cisplatin
  • If someone experiences the symptoms such as ringing in the ears, painful urination, loss of balance or red urine, consult the doctor immediately.
