ADRIAMYCIN

Adriamycin is also known as Doxorubicin. It is used to treat many cancers such as breast cancer, lymphomas cancer, stomach cancer, multiple myeloma cancer etc.

What should patients discuss with their doctors before taking Adriamycin?

Do not use Adriamycin without consulting the health care providers if someone has

  • Liver problems
  • Kidney disease
  • Heart conditions
  • Received radiation therapy

Children have high risk of heart diseases due to treatment with this drug.

How should patient use this medicine?

The right quantity of this medicine will be determined by the health care provider. It depends the different type of cancer and other factors of the disease. Patients should take this medicine as directed by the doctor.

What side effects can this medication cause?  

  • An allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, lips, hives or tongue
  • Congestive heart failure including fluid retention, problems in breathing and chest pain
  • Blood problems and reduced bone marrow function
  • Stiffness and joint pain
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Tingling, numbness or seizures

What should patient avoid while taking this medication?  

  • Wash skin with mild soap and lukewarm water.
  • Avoid contact with people who have flu, colds and other contagious diseases.
  • Use only latex gloves and other protective measures while using this medication.
